It's Halloween Time!

On October 31st, we celebrated Halloween. Do you know where this celebration comes from? The teacher told us the origins of Halloween, and we want to share this with you:

The holiday originally comes from a people called the Celts. They lived in Europe more than 2000 years ago. On November 1st, they celebrated the end of summer. They thought ghosts visited the living on October 31st. They dressed up like ghosts so the spirits would not harm them.

Today, many countries still remember the dead on November 1st. It is called All Saints Day. Another name for it is All Hallow's Day. The day before, October 31st, is called All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween for short.

Halloween is an old tradition in Ireland and Scotland. In those countries, people dressed up and carried lanterns made of turnips. When people moved from ireland and Scotland to the United States, they started using pumpkins. This is where the jack-o'-lantern comes from.
They also had a tradition of giving food to the spirits. Later, they gave the food to poor people. This is where trick or treating comes from!

Halloween has changed a lot since its origins. New people have brought new traditions, and changed the old ones. What do you think Halloween will be like in another two thousand years?

We've got a winner!

Values Campaign finished and all the teachers had to vote for the best drawings from all courses. From 1st Children, the winner is... Ana Victoria! During our Halloween Party, we had the awards ceremony, and Ana was awarded with a beatiful story book with a cd! Congratulations, Ana!
And here is her drawing!

And some pictures from the moment when she received the award!

Child's Day!

On August 13th, we celebrated Child's Day (And Miss Dora's birthday!). Our teacher brought a yummy, yummy cake and we had a nice picnic together with 2nd Children.
Miss Soledad (from 2nd Children) told us a story, and then...
4th Children performed a puppet play for us!!! It was excellent!

These are some of the pictures!

I guess someone has been picking our cake! :-P

Miss Sole telling us a spooky story!

PicNic in our classroom!

We are all concentrated in the story!

Miss Dora did a great job with the decoration! :-P

Puppets Show! (And the interpreters, of course!)

3rd Kids, 1st and 2nd Children watching the great show prepared by 4th Children

PS: Our dear teacher forgot her camera and she took the pictures with her mobile phone, that's why they're low quality images! (We'll tell you not to forget it again!)

Working with Values! Part 2

Working with Values!

During the month of June, we worked with values. We entered in a competition in which we had to make a drawing showing our opinions about jealousy, responsible behaviour, helping others, and what is good and what is bad.
The teacher taught us a poem called The Smile Starter, and we want to share it with you!
The Smile Starter!

Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today,

I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner,
and someone saw my grin.

When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it to him.
I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.

A single smile just like mine,
could travel the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected.

Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

These are Lucía, Ana and Oriana, with our Smile Starter Poster =)

Let us show you our work during our first months in 1st Children!

This is our classroom. Well, a part of our classroom :-P
Do you like our posters? We have a lot of them in our classroom!

This picture was taken when we watched Lilo and Stitch! We really enjoyed working with that film!
That same day, during the first part of the year, the teacher prepared a game in which each of us had to write all the words we remembered... and it seems we remembered a lot of words... we built the wall of a house!
From left to right, we are: Ayelén, Ailén, Oriana, Ana, Lucía, Martina and Maite!

And we are Stéfano, Enzo, and Franco! (Again, from left to right :-P)
